Get Found on Search Engines
Can Your Customers Find You on Google and Other Popular Search Engines for the RIGHT Keywords? No? Then chances are it's costing you a fortune in lost business opportunities
When we ask business owners if their sites are being found on search invariably the same response comes back: "Oh yes our website comes up on search engines!", yet in the same sentence they'll be complaining about the lack of traffic and hence, results.
After a bit of digging usually we find the truth: the business isn't actually placing well at all for the best keywords and there's little, if any, thought gone into the search engine strategy.
Now the only guarantee with Google ranking (and other other engines such as Yahoo & MSN for example) is there are NO GUARANTEES when it comes to getting on the front page. It's like beachfront property: it's in very limited supply whilst being in high demand. So after many years of getting our clients ranked well (quite often within the top 3 on the front page), we've learnt that if you don't have a well thought out strategy, the right copy written in the right places and a well structured web design technology-wise then forget about a front page ranking, especially on Google - it's as simple as that.
If on the other hand you want to explore the potentially huge opportunities that may come with a front page rank then you need to need to carefully read the following information...
Without giving too much away, here's some of the reasons our customer's sites rank so well on search engines:
Strategic copywriting: writing the correct copy in key strategic locations throughout the website is crucial (where "correct copy" is defined as: what your target audience is most likely to be typing in)
Having RELEVANT content and LOT'S OF IT! Having systems in place to facilitate fast, easy, website content additions to our customer's sites is one of the reasons our sites place so well. Sure there are some nifty techniques to SEO (search engine optimisation) but really it all boils down to one simple fact: the site with the MOST RELEVANT content wins. That's the way Google and other search engines are designed to work. The search engines are geared to provide the searcher with the MOST RELEVANT search results. There's no getting away from this and we don't expect the search engines to change that anytime soon. A very simple example is this: let's say you're looking for a company that sells "white shirts" in Brisbane. Let's also say there are 5 companies that sell white shirts in the Brisbane area. Yous might use the search term "white shirts brisbane". If one of the sites have 20 pages of informative content featuring RELEVANT keywords and a competitor's site has only 3 pages, chances are the one with with 20 will place above the site with 3 (all other factors being equal such as: inbound links, time on the internet, website structure and a few other things). We're amazed at how many people just don't "get this" and roll their eyes when we stress the importance of adding content. It's just common sense and if you want to play ball on the front page of search then you just have to play by the rules. Or else quit complaining about your poor rank and pack up your bat and ball and go home.
Google integration techniques such as:
Google analytics: this the website statistical analysis software provided by Google. Simply by integrating this into the sites we build, we've noticed they seem to get visited more often by the Google search engine
Google sitemaps: sitemaps provide you with a way to tell Google valuable information about your website
Google maps: have you noticed when doing searches on Google the pictures of maps starting to appear more often at the top of the results? For starters, if you don't have maps added to your site then you're not going to feature in those results. Secondly, maps further integrate Google technology into your website. And that's always a good thing!
