HTTP

HTTP (which stands for 'Hypertext Transfer Protocol') is the basis for transmitting data (such as web pages) on the internet. It was primarily designed to govern communication between web servers and clients (i.e. web browsers such as Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Safari, etc.) and it opperates on a standard client-server model.

A typical example of an HTTP request would be a web browser loading a web page, where the browser opens a connection to make a request, waits for a response from the web server, and then displays that response to the user.
